Pretty, tiny Sigtuna

Tiny Sigtuna city. It was once the smallest town in Sweden, besides being the oldest.

Sigtuna was once a royal city, the old capital of Sweden.

For 250 years, it was an important city. Sweden’s first coins were minted in Sigtuna. Alas, the ancient minting house was not preserved. I wish the municipality of Sigtuna could make a reconstruction of that old minting house.

I come to Sigtuna often due to work. I like the tiny city. I like its small boutiques, coffee shops and restaurants. There’s a boardwalk, too – something that’s added in recent years.

When I was there before Easter 2015, I took some photos of the residential area with its old wooden houses. I also went to the temporary tourist house where I bought a tray with the words “Sigtuna – where Sweden begins”. The blond lady in the picture works for the tourist agency, Destination Sigtuna.

Sigtuna is in the top 10-list of most beautiful cities in Sweden 2014.
