Burial in Sweden

Burial in Sweden

My day’s assignment was to check out the new non-religious/neutral funeral venue and the mortuary at Husby Ärlinghundra kyrka (church).

The venue has no religious symbols, in respect to atheists and agnostics.  Or people with other religion.

It also has a long-term storage for urns that wait for its internment. According to the priest, many deceased from this parish – Märsta pastorat – get cremated in Silverdal, Sollentuna. Their ashes are placed in urns, but internment can last a year. Warmer months are preferred for burial.

Those who are not cremated are buried in coffins witin a month after death.

The visit makes me think of my own internment. I’d like to be cremated and buried in my homeland and adopted land.
