We were in Amsterdam in the middle of the week, right before the end of the tulip season. There were so many tourists, so many long queues to museums!

On our last Sunday, it didn’t feel good to wait too long to get in Rijksmuseum. So we accepted the possible fate of not being able ever to see the “Night Watch”.

But on Monday, the number of tourists decreased. Many had come back home after the weekend. And that was when it was easy to visit Rijksmuseum.

We saw what we came there for, Rembrandt’s Night Watch, plus van Goghs self-portrait.

I’ve heard that during Rembrandt’s time in the 1600s, painters specialised in different areas: landscapes, portrait, cityscape, seascape, etcetera. But Rembrandt mastered all these. Ooh am I green with envy.
