Gezelligheid. That’s a Dutch quality – of being friendly, cozy, informal, easy-going. It’s something looked up to, especially when one is out dealing with people.
It’s about being friendly even towards strangers, even in the oddest places – like a pub, or restaurant. It’s about making small talks, being cheery and agreeable.

Speaking of gezelligheid, my old hometown friend, Kuya Knollee, who is now based in Hague, visited me in Amsterdam. That is good old gezelligheid. And we had a memorable evening.
