I joined the yearly Grodden gala, a branch day for the association of free local newspapers in Sweden.
Our local newspaper Sigtunabygden got nominated for best portrait by Viviana Canoilas.
The day started with mingle and lectures. This year’s focus again was on digital media and technique. Ironically, this year’s winner in the category Free Newspaper of the Year, Umeå Tidning, focuses only on newspaper product, and doesn’t have news in its homepage.
There was a dinner gala. I wore a dress designed by my aunt. It got noticed and praised by my friends.
We sat at a table with colleagues from Uppsalatidningen, which is like a cousin newspaper to us, since it is also owned my media house Upsala Nya Tidning (Mediehuset UNT). Uppsalatidningen was nominated for free newspaper of the year.
Anyway, the venue is back in Quality Globe Hotel. The last time we celebrated Grodden in Globen was two years ago, and back then the hotel wasn’t fully built yet. Now the hotel is impressive.
I partied till late, but still managed to wake up at 6 am. While waiting to eat breakfast with colleagues, I took a walk around the block. It’s huge, with a shopping mall and a tourist site, Ericsson Globe, within the area.
Anyway, I got nominated for Grodden twice – last year for best portrait, and 2013 for best photo. Didn’t win though.
